Happy International Volunteers Day!

Every year on 5th December we have the opportunity to celebrate the commitment of millions of volunteers who, wherever they live, are taking action to build a better world. Today, the Europe Region WAGGGS and WOSM European Region would like to thank the thousands of Guide and Scout volunteers across Europe for their commitment and support and recognize the impact of the programmes they are providing to empower boys and girls, young men and women to become active and responsible citizens.

You can ensure your volunteer actions are counted by completing the WAGGGS and WOSM Survey on Volunteering launched at the beginning of November.  In one month, of the 1500 Guide and Scout volunteers who have completed our survey, 1000 are volunteering for up to 14 hours each week to support our Movements!  That’s an incredible commitment, for which we are truly grateful.

Every year, hundreds of millions of people around the world like you give their time and share their skills.  Make your action count globally by signing up to the UN Volunteers website Volunteer Action Counts to help raise global awareness of the power of volunteering and ensure your contribution to building communities based on trust, reciprocity, solidarity and belonging is recognized and acknowledged.

Celebrate the power of volunteering by sharing your story, tweet your own IVD message at #IVD2012 on 5 December! #actioncounts
