“Why, How and What: young leaders increasing accessibility and quality of the youth experience”

Call for participants P2LP2L

Framework

The study session is organized in the framework of the work WAGGGS is doing at global level to redesign our leadership offer, and focuses on leaders of youth members.

The participants of our Study Session will have the opportunity to exchange experiences and good practices – as well as engage in deep interesting discussion about the GGGS educational methods, the purpose of Guiding and Scouting and the process of design and delivering educational activities to our youth members.

We expect it to contribute to the reflection and learning process enabling young Guide and Scout leaders to deliver a Relevant, Exciting, Accessible and Learner-led educational programme in countries or areas where youth engagement, non-formal education and experiential learning are not developed at their full potential and where youth organisations do not yet have the capacity to develop training of trainers. The aim of the project is to create more opportunities for all our volunteers to develop understanding and expertise in our non-formal education methods and how to use the method to ensure a quality youth experience.

Expected output (final product of the study session)

The output of the study session is a toolbox with NFE training sessions that will support Guide and Scout leaders at local level in peer to peer learning. Participants of the study session will co-create a toolbox that local leaders will be able to use with other leaders, to learn together. We expect it to contribute to the reflection and learning process enabling young Guide and Scout leaders around the world to deliver a Relevant, Exciting, Accessible and Learner-led educational programme, as part of WAGGGS’ leadership offer for leaders working with young people.

It can be used in well-established MOs that want to facilitate peer to peer learning at local level as part of their Adult learning framework, as well as in countries where an MO wants to create new groups in remote areas or in countries where there are not WAGGGS Associations yet. Participants of the Study session will develop a set of training modules per each area of the educational methods and one additional set of activities to set a framework for the toolbox (total of 6 modules). A focus on accessibility, diversity and gender will be a crosscutting element of the tool, which will be made available in all five WAGGGS regions.

Expected outcomes (change we aim at)

The tool aims to contribute to the reflection about our learning framework:

  • Why we do Guiding and Scouting: our purpose, from macro level to specific needs of youth members
  • How we do it: the GGGS educational methods
  • What we do: activities that are designed and delivered
  • How to ensure quality through the REAL (Relevant, Exciting, Accessible, Learner-led) crosscutting standard

We believe that an increased understanding of our learning framework will result in delivering a higher quality programme and will improve our youth members’ experience.
